The Power of Mindfulness Based Interventions
The Research
Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery (MBCR) is modeled after the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program created by Jon Kabat Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Practiced and researched since the 1970s, MBSR, and now MBCR, offer participants powerful results to manage symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression which often go hand-in-hand with a cancer diagnosis.
The Journal of Clinical Oncology reports that mindfulness-based interventions should be included as evidence-based treatment approaches that can be recommended to health care providers to manage depression and anxiety.
And, in a clinical trial at Georgetown University, as reported in Forbes, researchers found that the mindfulness-based stress reduction workshop was as effective as antidepressants in treating anxiety disorders.
“Mindfulness practices helped guide me back into a peace of mind and calmness that strengthened my ability to face each new day more fully grounded.”
